Ashley Borzellino
Construction Inspector and Miss Canada 2023
Ashley Borzellino was born in Italy and raised in Canada and from the get-go she has been promoting occupational diversity, and it shows. Ashely is the first Canadian convivial pageant winner that Ive illustrated and she protrudes authenticity, respect, confidence, and congeniality all the pageant is about. She commenced pageantry in 2021 and placed second runner-up for Miss Canada 2022. Pageantry has given her a platform to speak about her passions and to showcase that true beauty lives within your heart, mind and soul.
At the age of 17, Ashley earned the Ontario Scholar Award and attended post-secondary a year earlier and is now a graduate of Civil Engineering Technology and work as a Construction Development Inspector. As we have seen before, both her program and occupation are male dominated.
"I have been the only female on more than 95% of my sites, but this means I am able to be a female representative in the industry."
There are so many things that Ashley loves about her job, being an Inspector for over 4 years working full time. The involves working outdoors and meeting new crews every day.
Ashley has worked with many Women Empowerment programs, including the Women in STEM Committee where she strives to inspire others to push societal boundaries and aim to achieve their professional and personal goals.
"I believe that confidence and determination is vital to any accomplishment. I love on the spot problem solving and encouraging teamwork to get the job done quickly, safely and efficiently. I love seeing site transformation and being a part of it!"
Among all this Ashley has been a finalist for the Hamilton Spectator Youth Volunteer of the Year award as she volunteered with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets for six years, graduating as a Flight Sergeant. Mentoring junior cadets lead her to become a special speaker for the Kids Now program.
